Defining The Meaning Of Food

According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary Material consisting essentially of protein, carbohydrate, and fat used in the body of an organism to sustain growth, repair and vital processes and to furnish energy

Any substance that is or can be consumed by living organisms, especially by eating, in order to sustain life.

Fun Fact: The use of the word food was first recorded around the 12th century, with a simple definition which is "Something that all people and all animals eat and absorbed by plants to keep them alive.

Importance of a Balanced Diet

No one on this whole planet denies the importance of a balanced diet in our life.

We know very well we cannot survive without eating food. But eating anything without taking care of what you are eating is healthy or not is bad for your normal body functions.

When we think about a balanced diet, the first that comes into our mind includes foods with lots of nutrients with a low level of calories. So, we live a healthy, satisfying life without adequate nutrition; therefore, be careful about what you eat.

What Is Food Definition?

The simplest foods definition; everything we eat for our survival is food. Some of the foods come from animals or birds like beef, fish, pork, veal & chicken, etc.

While others originate from plants, include wheat, rice, beans, fruit & vegetables. We also consume foods that animals prepare like eggs & milk or dairy products.

Their nutritional values are different.
Foods from animals are rich in protein, fat. Usually, vitamin B12 & Vitamin D While plant foods are high in carbohydrates, fibers, significant vitamins like A, E & D, and minerals, etc.

We can define food as a combination of chemicals taken by an individual for the growth or development, repair, and replacement of body cells, energy releases, and maintenance of all life processes.

The number of essential nutrients that a person needs differ by age and the state of his body; for example, physical activities, presence of diseases (such as breast cancer, prostate cancer or weakened bones known as osteoporosis), pregnancy, medication, and lactation.
